for zackary’s second birthday, we upgraded his room to a “big boy room”!   the history with the room is that when we moved in that room was supposed to be an office.  we also had a dining room space.  but we have like a ton of kids, and we have no furniture for a dining room, so we made the “office” room another bedroom and the dining room our office!  bren and josh share a room, brit and mae share a room, richie and i share a room (lol), and that leaves jaden and zack.  so they share the “ex-office” room downstairs.  its Hard to make a cool room for a boy and a girl… esp since z is a Manly guy and jaden is a Girly girl.  so i went with grey and green and teal.  and a touch of red and pink.  so here goes pics of the new room…. ITS NOT DONE… there will be LOTS of pics added to the walls… but for now, this is it!

jaden's bed from "rooms to go". LOVE the trundle. holds all her clothes. the pink blanket worked well to feed on her girlisms. bedding by target. animal print by ikea.

byebye crib... HELLO toddler bed... : )

party stuff!! parrrrrr-tayyyyyy!

$10 purchase from the liberty antique festival last year. i debated forEver on this table... i'm so glad richie insisted we get it! i LOVE it!!

ikea. love ikea.

armoire also from the antique festival. holds all zacks clothes. perfect "closet" for this room!

i was fighting keeping z out of his room for those room shots. finally i let him in... : )

laughing at brit who's tossing a blanket on his head and pulling it off...

this marks one of the ONLY pics in the last six months where he LOOKED at the camera. when richie saw his on my screen he Stopped dead in his tracks, stunned i got a shot of him Looking at me! score one mama!

look who's wearing lego undies!!! yup.. its potty training time in the staggs house!

brothers. and nerf swords. enough said.

we try to spend at least a couple hours at the pool a few times a week.  it gives me a chance to separate myself from my computer.  it gives the kids a chance to play in the water.  and we have the BEST pool!  its got a Great end for the little ones.  and then a deep end for the older kidos.  and a lazy river and a big water slide.  LOVE it.

the legs of britt-a-knee. love that girl!

z's birthday waterer from grandma! he Loves this thing in the pool!

and z thinks this slide is the Best! and brit is always there to make sure he's totally fine in the process!

sunday and monday, we all had a mini-beach-getaway!  we headed over to wrightsville beach and spent two days in the sand.  did we take a million pictures?  nope.  mixing wind with sand and july temperatures makes me NERVOUS bringing out my camera.  then add in keeping up with six little bodies running on the beach, including one SUPER fast and always-into-something two year old, and making sure everyone’s lathered in sunscreen and hydrated and fed, and counting heads in the ocean, and keeping up with goggles and who got who’s towel sandy, and is there any way to get zackary a NAP… all makes for a small amount of photography time.  but we were very happy to watch the six of them play and smile and sweat and laugh…  i’m so lucky to have richie who works so hard to make our time perfect, whether its putting up tents for shade, or carrying the 75 pound cooler on his shoulder like ten miles in the sand, or spending time with the kids in the ocean.. cause i HATE the ocean.  for being so appreciative, i probably should have put more sunscreen on him.  oops.  so here are some of the few pics we DID get.  and then there were lots more taken with film.  as soon as richie gets those processed i’ll be posting those as well.  for now, here are these….  <3

zackary chasing the gulls. he was mesmorized with them! and they got so close to him... almost seeming as if they were teasing him...

"bird bird"

"where'd it go?" this is one of his fav phrases right now

"there it is!"

this is a series of TTV shots richie got. love them!

z doesn't like the ocean. he got this from me.

sea gulls. pretty. and pretty dang aggravating!

yo. its me.

this next shot has a little story behind it…. while we were on the beach we got to witness the sweetest proposal!  the groom-to-be got two of his friends to write “marry me emi” in the sand in shells.  then as the couple, as they walked down the beach, came upon a picnic basket and the shells, she read them and he got down on his knee and proposed!!  as they kissed and hugged, EVERYone on the beach cheered!  it was so sweet!  i didn’t have my camera out and ready to capture the event (fail), but richie took his polaroid down to where they were and got a polaroid of them with the letters fading out on the side so they’d have a shot to take with them!  after they had a picnic, they walked away, leaving behind the shells.  of course i grabbed a few to put in our “beach jar keepsake”.  then the children descended…..  and i got this shot of them hurrying the best they could to get the shells up as the tide approached quickly.  and then the friendly (not) seagulls started in and the kids grabbed shells and chased birds… and grabbed shells and chased birds… so i had to grab this shot….  : )

then on monday afternoon, we drove out to fort fisher and walked along the rock border that acted as a barrier agst the north invading the island during the civil war.  i am in LOVE with this shot richie got with his polaroid with its snazzy self-timer of all of us!  there are some on the film rolls as well, but other than that, this was the only time we got a shot of all eight of us!

xxoo, richie, jamie, maegan, britt, brenn, josh, jaden, and zack <3

carrie jo and nathan… married… berry hill plantation, south boston, virginia.  “i think we are the weirdest couple because we have strange mutual hobbies, like bowhunting…”, carrie jo said about her and nathan’s relationship.  so as i entered into the bridal suite looking for a “bowhunter” i had to stop in my tracks when i saw carrie jo.  she looked Stunning to put it mildly!  those gorgeous long blonde curls and her tall, narrow body, and a laugh that you couldn’t keep a straight face watching….  last saturday on the front lawn of berry hill she became nathan’s wife.  berry hill is such an amazing venue, and no matter how many times we shoot a wedding there, its greatness never ceases to amaze me.  carrie jo and nathan, you had a Perfect day saturday and richie and i feel priveleged to have been able to be a part of it.  the following is what was supposed to be a short preview of some of our favorite images from your day.  but it’s a Little more than “short”.  <3

venue:  berry hill plantation

hair/makeup: megan snipes… drove in from greensboro and i def see why carrie jo loves her so!

cake: la bella torta

band: class act

i LOVED how they mixed in details like the deer antlers, yet kept it very vintage/classic... beautiful!!

this was cute... the two dads wore the Same Suit! so awesome!!

when carrie jo said "i think i want some shots in the canoe" i was like "well you won't hear US saying no!" so we did just that! got them in a canoe on the pond! total success!

wish lanterns!!! highly recommend!!! : )

this past sunday richie and i met up with charlotte and mark and their lil miss sadie for an “after session”.  they were married in february, and while they had an Awesome wedding, they wanted some pictures of the two of them that were a little more “them”… a little more casual… a little more natural… and with SADIE in them!  we met out at umstead park in raleigh, where the three of them take walks and just hang out.  they were troopers in the almost 100 degree heat!  here are some of my favorites from their session….

yesterday, carrie jo and nathan were married at berry hill plantation in south boston virginia.  richie has been shooting some film lately and i had mentioned my old minolta camera that i used when i started shooting, about 8 years ago.  it was a film camera my mom had given me a while back and i knew the camera was at her house.  richie dug it out of the spot its probably been for about 6 years.  and, wudda ya know… theres film in it!  there were only a few exposures left on the roll, but i so desperately wanted to shoot with it!  richie will tell you, its hard for me to take a step out of my box.  especially with all the craziness that happens on a wedding day.  but i proudly pulled that camera out on a few select occasions yesterday, not having any idea if the film was still good or if the camera even worked anymore.  ahhhhh…. i couldn’t help but smile at the sound of the film advancing.  and i’d never admit that after every exposure i snapped, i always looked down at the back of the camera.  only to find a big black piece of plastic.  and oh the anticipation of taking the film roll to walgreens to get the negatives done and then getting richie to scan them in on his film scanner.  be still my heart.  it DID take!  and while theres little glitches here and there, i LOVE the feeling of the film.  and i can GUARANTEE i will continue to listen to that beautiful sound of film advancing in my hands…..  here are a few of my favorites….  <3
