this week is prep week. as you will hear more about in the next couple days, richie and i are getting ready to go on a vacation for just US! friday we leave for not only phoenix, but also we start our what i am calling october-thon. we will be home just a few days this whole month and all the other time we will be on da move. so before we leave we are trying to get all the “little things” done so i don’t have to think about them while we are off galavanting around arizona! so here is just some of what needed to get done for the week…. and cause you know i love to post pics of our books and stuff! so this is whats on the plate for now!

and THESE are my new crafty projecty thingys that i LOVE and richie will tell you, if it looks like it could sit still long enough to have a sticker applied to it, it probably has one on it. : )

welcome to the disc burning and printing department. how may we serve you? : ) we've done a BUNCH of these this week!! so pretty much if i owe you a CD its in this stack!
this week we got THE SWEETEST card in the mail from jordan (THE “j” of JAM photography)’s grandmother… we took her pictures, at JAM’s request, while they were on their honeymoon because… well they weren’t sure if she’s still be here on earth when they got home. i am happy to say she IS still here with them and she has LOVED showing her pictures of jordan and mindy to all her neighbors at her retirement community! she was so sweet to send us this note even with her energy zapped from her…. and to make it the most darling note EVER, she started it “dear nice photographers”…. doesn’t get much better than THAT!! : )

jordan and mindy... thank you for allowing us to be part of your family at your wedding! you have an Incredible family and we were honored to share the day with them!
this past weekend, richie and i made a trip to tennessee to meet his mom and brit and josh to let them take zack for a few weeks! we wish she could see him more often, but 13 hours is a Long way away…. so we thought a few weeks with grandma might do him And her some good! so off to tennessee we went and on the way back took the chance to see where one of our brides, kassie, is getting married in two weeks!! her wedding is taking place in mohawk, tennessee and when we got there…. WOW!!!! its a Stunningly beautiful place!!!!! so i had to post some pics from our visit just to show that awesome country!!!
and finally…. what i do in the car for long hours with twizzlers….. : ) LOVE YOU RICHIE!!!!!!
and thats a wrap!!! a few days in the life of jamie and richie! we LOVE our life!! <3

for those who don’t know, a first look is when the bride and groom meet before the wedding in a very intimate setting, and are introduced to each other and they have time TOGETHER, ALONE (well, with us lovely photographers filming the whole process!!). one of the many benefits to this is that instead of a groom seeing his bride for the first time in front of 100-300-500+ people, they get to see each other “alone” (i added those pretty quotes because they aren’t really ALONE due, again, to us always clicking photogs). they can kiss. they can cry. they can TOUCH! they can hug. they can TALK. they can twirl around together and pretend like they are the only people around. conversely, if he sees her in a church, in front of everyone, they can only look at each other, and grin, and in a few mins hold hands, and then they talk to each other all during the ceremony, hoping their mikes don’t pick up their conversation broadcasting thru the santuary… and they hope theres no pop quiz at the end of the service because they really aren’t paying that much attention to whats going on because they are so focused on Each Other (or we HOPE they are!).
richie and i did a first look… but not right before our ceremony… we actually did ours a week before in vegas! we knew that we wanted some amazing pictures of us together, and we knew we were going to be in vegas the week before our wedding (at a wedding photographer conference none-the-less) and we asked our friends jeremy and shannon of “thousand words photography” to do a desert session while we were there! we NEVER regret our decision and i can’t even put into words how much i love our images from this session!! i want to include some shots from our actual first look we had at the hotel before heading out to the desert…. it makes me happy just to look at these as i post them… this was an INCREDIBLE, long-awaited, wonderfully captured moment for us… <3

(and no those weren't my for real wedding shoes... but i didn't want to worry about breaking my neck as i walked towards him... lol
another big advantage to a “first look” is that most of the pictures of the two of you can be taken Before the ceremony and therefore you are able to speed off rather quick-like to your reception! i have heard SO many brides say “i really don’t want to keep my guests waiting so lets just do a few minutes of pictures and then we want to get to the reception”. and i Totally understand that… i do! Buuuuuuut….. (warning: here comes my photographer voice…) the pictures of the two of you are going to be the Most special pictures from your wedding. they will more than likely be the ones up on your walls… the ones you print off to put in all your thank you cards… the ones that you and your spouse will look at ten, twenty, fifty years from now and say “aww look baby, wasn’t our wedding day the most awesome day?!” so for all those reasons, its Our job as your photographers to take Those pictures of you and make them the most incredible images we can! Its Really hard to do that in 5 or even 10 minutes. soooo…. again…. another great reason to do a first look before the ceremony if you want to get to your reception fast!
i know… i know… its just always been custom for the groom to not see the bride before the ceremoy… but just where that tradition came from is kind of funny… in the “olden days” a marriage was more of a business decision and it was not rare for the couple to have Never met before their “big day”. the family didn’t want the groom to see the bride before the wedding because they were afraid that if he saw her and thought she was unattractive he may change his mind! sooooo they thought the best way to avoid this was to keep them from seeing each other until it was “too late!” oh my…… i definitely don’t think that holds true in This day and age!!
our awesome friends mindy and jordan, who are also photographers, were married last weekend, and they knew they wanted this special moment shared together before their ceremony. they wanted to be able to just be… THEM.. for a few minutes before their hurried day happened…. lifestage films captured their first look as well and i can’t WAIT to see their video work from it!! but for now, here are some images from their first look….
for those who still need a little convincing i am posting a link to my new favorite videographers, lifestage films, video they just posted…. i think that sums it up pretty darn well!! my final word on the subject….. you won’t find any bride or groom who did a first look who wished they hadn’t… oh AND (yes i know i said final WORD like singular, but i have one more “word”) … i can guarantee you, the groom will love the bride NO LESS if he sees her an hour before the ceremony, and they will both find that moment of walking down the aisle no less momentous. promise. <3

this afternoon we took the kids to the pool for what will probably be the last time this season. watching zack head to the water on all fours, we said to each other “next summer he will be RUNNING to the water!” so we decided to get some decent documentation of his last time crawling around in the shallow end! we have an AWESOME pool we are members of and i love that the kid end is really shallow and gradually drops off. works FABulously for the little fish! here are some pics from our afternoon….

brenn LOVES his zman! and z just laughs and laughs when he comes around! here brenn is in the sneak attack mode! hes SUCH a great brother!!

papa... papa-ratzi... "babe. stop it. seriously. stop." the other pool guests i'm sure were like "dude... these people are WIERD." oh well. its us.
